Efcc vs. Imoson Motors: What both sides are saying

Yesterday, it was reported that Industrialist and owner of Innoson motors  - Chief Innocent Chukwuma, was arrested by the Economic and Financial crimes Commission (EFCC) at his residence in Enugu.

The news has since been confirmed by both the EFCC and Innoson motors. While social media is currently rife with allegations and counter allegations that go along tribal lines, or at best looks like beer parlor gossip, we go beneath the rubble to give you what both sides have said.

The EFCC, through its spoke person Mr. Wilson Uwujaren gave this as the Commission’s reason for the arrest: “A well-known industrialist, Chief innocent Chukwuma, popularly known by his company name, INNOSON, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial crimes Commission (EFCC).”

“He was picked up at about 11am at his Savage Crescent, GRA, Enugu residence…Tuesday December 19, 2017.

“His arrest followed his refusal to honour invitation by the commission having earlier jumped an administrative bail granted by him in a case being investigated by the Capital Market and Insurance Fraud Unit of the Commission’s Lagos Office.”

“Chukwuma, rather than honoring invitation by the EFCC mobilized six truckloads of thugs pretending to be staff of his company to his residence where they manhandled EFCC operatives.
“it took reinforcement from the Enugu office of the EFCC to effect the arrest of the industrialist who is currently been grilled by a team of investigators.

Innoson, on their part, have released a statement via their twitter handle - @innosonmotors: “GTB vs Innoson “illegal Arrest” hundreds of factory workers from Innoson factory Emere Enugu, protests the illegal bundling of Innoson to Lagos by EFCC organized by GTB.”

"Like a commando style, GTB uses EFCC to storm innoson Enugu residential home to bundle him to Lagos like a common criminal.”

It isn’t clear yet what is going on, and while the ruffle between Innoson motors and GTB started way back in 2012, it is not clear yet if this case is connected to that as GTB has denied being involved in his arrest and the EFCC also gave other reasons for his arrest.
