Google Celebrates Stephen Keshi with Google Doodle




Former Eagles Captain and coach Stephen Keshi would have been 56 years today and Google is celebrating him with a Google Doodle. 

Keshi, along with Egypt's Mahmoud El-Gohary are the only individual to have won the African Cup of nations as captain and then as a coach. 

Keshi He represented Nigeria 60 times as a player and won the African Cup of Nation as captain in 1994 and then as coach in 2013 when the super eagles were at their lowest ebb and had failed to quality for the previous edition. 

He also took the Super Eagles to the World Cup in 2014 where they qualified for the second round for the first time since 1998. Before taking the Eagles job, he was coach of the Togo national team qualified them for their first World Cup, but he left the role before the World Cup due to disagreement with the football authorities. 

He remains the only coach to have qualified two African countries to the World Cup. 

His playing career spanned two decades with stints at Belgium at Anderlecht where he won the league title in 1991. 

Keshi died in June 2016. His wife had died six months earlier, and they are survived by four children.
