MI Abaga, 'Rendevous': Track-by-Track review by Olumide Sekunowo

On Friday, February 9th, just a day after annoncing the due date for his next album titled, "Yung Denzel", MI surprised many by releasing another album - his 7th overall, called "Rendevous."

So, the surprise was evident when the rapper shared the art for the playlist project, with all the collaborators, which includes, Wande Coal, Cassper Nyovest, AKA, Terry Apala, Nonso Amadi, just to mention a few.

At First listen, You might want to be very critical but then again it's M.I., What could possibly go wrong? Lets dissect the track and pick what's wrong if we could find any!

Track 1
M.I ft. Chillz /\ Sunset
"What a day, what a day
Nigga tryna ride my wave
That's the thing nowadays
“Y'all don't know how to behave" M.I taking shots at N6. Playfully ending his nonexistent rap career. This life Song got too much sauce.
Chillz
8/10

To any asking how  he was talking to N6, peep these verses:
"Nigga you was talking loose
Why don't you say it to Loose

Now who gon' pay for your tooth

When we show up with the troops"
If you have been following recent events, I won't have to explain this verse.

Track 2
M.I ft. Cassper Nyovest /\ Soup
"You niggas salty
And I'mma show you pepper
Damn... You niggas in soup"

"I got comma and comma and commas like I never finish my sentences."
"Please don't look up when I'm stepping on niggas, that shit like a solar eclipse."
M.I did Cassper wrong. It was so clear

Shout out to Cassper too though. I remember Cassper hitting M.I up right here on Twitter when M said his album was done. Maybe that gave rise to this.
7/10.

Track 3
M.I ft. Nonso Amadi /\ Playlist
Anything Nonso touches is GOLD.
And I'm not just hyping. It's true.
This love tune may not be the standout song on the project but listen to it more than once & the refrain sticks.
M.I: Wooer of life

"...top of your playlist"
7/10

Track 4
M.I ft. Tomi Thomas & Santi /\ Jungle
Isn’t it amazing how good M.I is when he sings on the hook?
And who exactly are these guys? Why are they so good? So refined. So new.
Wow.
The production is 101%. A mix of dance & raggae. I FUCK WITH THIS!!!
8/10.

Track 5
M.I ft. CKay & Joules Da Kid /\ Whats D Level
"What's the 4-1-1-1???"

CKay finished work on the chorus??? Did he also produce it??? Like WHAAAAAT? Guy, see song. Joules WENT IN TOO, and the production! The production!!! 8/10.

Track 6
M.I ft. Wande Coal /\ Kososhi
Do I have to say anything?

Really?

It's DUBUYOUSEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
🕺
"2000 & kososhi!!!"

"Somebody tell me what the year is.
It's 2000 & don't waste my time"

The song is so short. I'm livid with anger!!!!!!!
9/10.

Track 7
M.I ft. Dice Ailes /\ Your Father
"ASK YOUR SISTER WHO IS SPANKING HER LIKE YOUR FADA???"

This is the single that dropped before the project.
Dice killed M on this as far as I'm concerned

"THEY WANT MAKE I FALL, BUT I DEY RISE LIKE OFADA"

7/10

Track 8
M.I ft. Moelogo /\ One Way
Moelogo makes me smile. Not the "happy" smile but the "I hate this sad song but I'm smiling anyway because it's cool" smile
A very unusual song.
Instrumentals & all.
Probably the hardest song on the project.
Successful Experiment.
8/10.

Track 9
M.I ft. AKA /\ On Code
"I just put a milli in the bank
& my accountant told me thanks
So I told him that when he's filling in the blanks
Put my name as G, cos I swear I be feeling really grand."

Braggado!

AKA also came in with flames!!
Hook is dull tho

6/10

Track 10
M.I ft. Ghost & Odunsi /\ Popping
M.I featured Ghost & hurried to bring in rockets and mad crazy flows so that Ghost doesn't eat him up.

My chest.

Ghost still ate him up.

Boy, GHOST IS CRAZY. WALAI. LEAVE HIM TF ALONE

9/10.

Track 11
M.I ft. Terry Apala /\ Jiggy
Not many people know this but I'm a HUGE Terry Apala fan. Now that's out of the way, let's continue.
Quick Question:
Why is M.I so versatile? Why? How is it even fair?

Terry MURDERED!!!!!
🕺
The song is kinda risque so:
7/10

Track 12
M.I ft. Odunsi, Falz, Ajebutter22 /\ Lekki
Falz is mesmerizingly good. Like, words fail me. He deserves everything he got.
AjeButter22 can do no wrong in my eyes, walai. So hilariously unpredictable
 M.I did his thing too.
Winner: Falz tha Bahd guy. That girl is that warri girl abi? The comedian. With skits. I recognized her rather unique voice.
Funny mini skits.
8/10.

Track 13
M.I ft. Straffiti & Blaqbonez /\ Slow
LOL... I'm so happy for EMEKA!!!
"Hush little puppy, you stole money"
M.I will forever be petty. This may just turn out to be my favourite song. The very different delivery of Bonez and Straffiti is soothing.
8/10

Track 14
M.I ft. Yung L  The Crew
Mr. Marley ON DECK!!!!
Thing is I'm not really a fan of this kinda tune, which when translated means it's going to be one of the standout songs on the album since it's a fun song. fun song!!!!
6.5/10.

Track 15
M.I ft. Trigga Madtonic /\ Sunrise
M.I is a hopeless romantic
He really really really do these love songs very very well.
Words. Flow. Production. .
WHO IS THIS TRIGGA GUYYYYY!!!
9.5/10.

Asides Fella Anikulapo Kuti.
MI Abaga is the greatest living legend in the whole of Africa!
