Yesterday, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode with Atiku Bagudu, the Kebbi state Governor and Oluranti Adebule, the Deputy Governor visits the launching of Lake Rice at the State House, Ikeja Lagos, which was said to be sold for N12 000 , starting from today.
Following the Launching of Lake Rice, the two states Governors, Atiku Bagudu and Akinwunmi Ambode were the first persons to taste the cooked Lake Rice.

Previously Governor Ambode promise his state resident that rice will be sold for Christmas, saying that a bag will be sold for N12, 000 in 12 locations.
But there had been doubt, caused the rice was not available on the promised date.

According to report,the Lagos state Government signed a deal in March 2016 with Kebbi State Government called MoU (Memorandum of Understanding ) over producing a made in Nigeria rice, while people doubt if the Lake Rice was a product of MoU or Not.Lagos State Governor, Akiwunmi Ambode described the launch as historic said:

“We signed the MoU in March 2016 with an understanding that we being proudly Nigeria, want to come out with what is made in Nigeria. We took the advice of President Muhammadu Buhari that we need to grow our food and we decided that we will prove a point and that is what today is all about.”During the launching, Governor Ambode promised that the state would enlarge its rice mill, saying to be the country largest consumption rice in the market.

The Governor plans was to ensure that Lagos residents enjoy a abundant Christmas and new year festival, so he reduced the price of the rice to N12, 000 from the N13, 000 which was the earlier price announced for a bag, while N6000 goes for half bag and N2,500 goes for quarter.In order to ensure that the rice goes round and sufficient for people, Ambode said that a person can only buy one bag, saying that the person will collect a ticket from any of the distributed 12 locations in the state before having access to buy.
Governor Bagudu, explained that about 16months ago he meet with Governor Ambode during a National Executive Council conference in Abuja, while they discuss over partnership for the production of rice to assist the country.

Bagudu said “We agreed that we should showcase our belief in Nigeria and our people, especially our commitment to the agenda of making Nigeria a big market in Africa,”
He said that the Lake Rice was made with high quality, claiming that it can stand any integrity test.
The Kebbi Governor said: “Our rice is of quality. I am proud of this joint venture. We can do more, we are glad that we are launching the Lake Rice today,”
According to reports, the JICA, Japan International Cooperation Agency has been assisting Nigerian by training their farmers on how to develop high-yield rice seeds in the country.
