From Nigeria to the World: A Tale Of Bankable Artists

The Nigerian music industry which happens to be one of the fastest growing sector in the country is beginning to be considered the headquarters of African music.

Going by statistics, the music industry's revenue from music sales alone was $56 million in 2015 and is forecast to grow to $88 million in 2019. It’s said that Nigeria’s entertainment and media industry put together had an estimated total revenue of $4.8 billion in 2015 and is likely to grow to some $8.1 billion in 2019, making it "the fastest-expanding major market globally".

All thanks to a new generation of artists that have been shaping the pop culture and putting Nigeria on the map, bankable artists such as Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Tekno and other top artist, all of whom have record deals with international labels have made it a great pride to be patriotic of the saying “From Nigeria to the world”.

A classic example is Starboy. As of November 2017, Wizkid has received a total of 47 awards from 161 nominations. He is the recipient of multiple international awards: two BET Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, two iHeartRadio Music Awards, one MTV Europe Music Awards, four MTV Africa Music Awards, one iHeartRadio Much Music Video Award, one African Pride Award, two MOBO Award, two Channel O Music Video Awards, six Nigeria Entertainment Awards, two Ghana Music Awards.

In addition, he has been nominated five times at the MTV Europe Music Awards, three times at the American Music Awards, once at the Grammy Awards, as well as four times at the World Music Awards.

It can be recalled that on the 29th of September, 2017 Wizkid made history by being the first African artiste to sell out the Royal Albert Hall in London but then, the accolade doesn’t stop there, hardly can any foreign artists outside the shores of this nation not know who Wizkid is or where he comes from.\

Definitely and undeniably, It has been a great year for the Industry and it’ll get better. With talented new artists springing up daily, who are hungry for success, maybe just maybe the Nigerian music industry might be considered not only as the headquarters for Africa music but also as the headquarters for the world music, which bring me to...

Dear Nigerian Artists, stay forever Woke!
