Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's brother, Hossein Fereydoun, has been sentenced to five years jail term following his judgment of corruption, BBC News report.

My Frontpager understands that Hossein was first arrested in July 2017 but was tried early this year in  February on a claim of financial misappropriation.

This online news platform recalls that during the 2013 and 2017 presidential campaigns in Iran, President Hassan has promised to fight corruption in the country.

Hossein was convicted of “receiving bribes” and sentenced to seven years in jail, In May 2019. nevertheless an appeal court later reduced his jail term of seven years to five years and ordered him to return any property that he had acquired illicitly and pay a fine equal to $9m in Iranian currency.

His legal adviser,  Hossein Sartipi in an interview with a newsman confirmed that his client was committed to Tehran’s Evin prison on Wednesday.

“This morning, Mr. Fereydoun together with myself were present at the prosecutor’s office.”

“After legal procedures were completed, he was taken to Evin prison and was admitted to the prison,” he added.
